FILM POSTER ANALYSE

Comparing media products

The typography in the movie cover is clearer than the other poster as the title for the bad boy’ 2 poster is black which suits with the red/orange background.  It also has the names for the two main characters right above the title and their names are right above the two actors making it easy to know who they are. The other poster’s typography suits but its less clear then the Bad Boys 2 poster because the names at the top of very small and hard to see. Compared to the other poster which has the names black and bold.

George Hurrell

George Edward Hurrell was born on June 1, 1904 in Kentucky and raised in Cincinnati Oho.  He showed an interest in drawing at a young age. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago briefly, then the neighboring Academy of Fine Arts in his teens, but he left school in 1922 and attempted a career as a painter. Hurrell came from a large Catholic family and had four brothers and one sister. George Hurrell originally signed up at the Quigley Seminary in Chicago to become a priest, but decided to go to art school instead.

Low Key Photography is using dark colors and a dark tone to create an effect.

·         Content: The woman in the photo are Joan Crawford, a Film actress and Natalie Cole who is a singer and songwriter.
·         Lighting: In the picture with Joan Crawford there is only light on her face and nothing else. Both picture have a high contrast. They’re lit because they have no shadows. Only one light seems to be used for both photos.
·         Position of camera: Both photos are taken at an eye angle.
·         Focus: The photo with Joan Crawford mostly focuses on her face as the rest of the background is black and the one with Natalie Cole focuses on her chest to her face.
·         Meaning: The one with Joan could try to tell us that she is feeling depressed and sad as you see her looking down and it only shows her face and the one with Natalie Cole tell us that she’s feeling relaxed as she seems to be lying down.
